Using your own domain

We always recommend users attach a domain to Linkly before setting up QR codes.

This reduces the chance of scanning issues, as QR codes are generated for your domain, rather than ours.

QR Code FAQs

Can I change the color of my QR code?

Yes, you can change the foreground and background colors in the QR code dialog.

Can I download the QR code for printing?

Yes, click 'Download as PNG' in the large QR code dialog.

How do I scan a QR code?

Use the camera app on your phone.

Why should I use my own domain to generate QR codes?

As QR codes are often printed, having your links on your domain means you are not tied into Linkly in future. You can switch to another platform and your links will still work.

In addition, using your own domain is typically more reliable and reduces the chance of any scanning issues.

Can I change the destination after the QR code is generated?

Yes. You can change the destination in Linkly. The original QR code will scan and now direct users to your new destination.

Are scans tracked in Linkly?

Yes, they're tracked exactly the same as clicks.

Can I track my QR codes in Google Analytics?

Yes, using Linkly's Google Analytics integration.

Do QR Codes expire?

QR codes generated with Linkly last indefinitely.

You can, if you so choose, set an expiry date.

How do QR codes work?

We've written a blog post about how QR codes work.

Can I download a high-resolution QR code?

Yes. On your link, click the small QR code and it will popup a larger one.

You can download it 400x400 pixels, with a pixel density of 72 pixels/inch.

As QR codes consist of only straight lines and no shaded areas, these can be expanded to any resolution or printed without any loss of fidelity.

Can I use a mailto in my QR code?

Yes! Read more about how to make mailto QR codes.

Can QR codes be colored?

Any colors will do, but high contrast colors will scan more easily in low light conditions.
