Linkly & Typeform

Click counts tell you a form link was popular. They don't tell you whether anyone filled the form in.

Connect Typeform and Linkly records each completed form as a conversion against the short link that was clicked. You can then compare links by submissions, not only by clicks: which email, which ad, which QR code, which partner's link actually brings in responses.

What you need

  • A Linkly account. The free plan works.
  • A Typeform account. URL parameters are a free Typeform feature. Webhooks, which carry the responses to Linkly, are listed on Typeform's paid plans (Basic and up); if Typeform refuses the webhook when you switch tracking on, that is the reason.

Connect Typeform

  1. 1
In Linkly, open Integrations and choose Typeform.
  2. 2
Click Connect Typeform and approve access on Typeform's screen.
  3. 3
You are returned to Linkly with the account shown as connected, and a list of its forms.
  4. 4
Switch on Tracking for each form you share through Linkly links.

Switching tracking on does two things in Typeform: it adds a URL parameter named linkly_cid to the form (Typeform calls these hidden fields), and it registers a webhook that sends Linkly each completed response for that form. Nothing else about the form changes.

  1. 1
Create a Linkly link that points at your form, for example https://yourname.typeform.com/to/AbCd12, or edit one you already have.
  2. 2
In the link's Tracking & analytics options, switch on Conversion tracking.

That is the whole setup. Share the short link as usual.

How it works

When someone clicks a tracked link, Linkly adds a short random identifier for that click to the form's address as it redirects, as linkly_cid. Typeform reads it into the form's linkly_cid parameter, sends it back to Linkly with the response, and Linkly matches the submission to the click.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Only tracked links count. Submissions that didn't come through a Linkly link with conversion tracking on are ignored. Linkly never sees the rest of your responses.
  • Your own URL parameters still work. If your links already carry #email= or #source= parameters, they are passed through untouched. linkly_cid travels alongside them.
  • Partial responses don't count. Linkly only records completed forms.
  • The identifier names a click, not a person. It is random and carries no personal information. The respondent's name and email are attached to the conversion only when your form asks for them.

Embedded forms

If the short link goes to a page on your own site that embeds a Typeform, rather than to typeform.com directly, the embed has to pass the parameter through. In the embed's advanced options switch on Read URL parameters, or add data-tf-transitive-search-params="linkly_cid" to the embed code. Alternatively, use conversion tracking with linkly.js on that page instead.

Disconnect

Open Integrations, choose Typeform, and click Disconnect. Linkly removes its webhooks from your forms and deletes its access. Conversions already recorded stay in your reports. The linkly_cid parameter stays on your forms; it does nothing on its own, and you can remove it in Typeform under Workflow, then Pull data in.

Troubleshooting

"Typeform wouldn't let Linkly add the linkly_cid parameter." Some forms can't be edited through Typeform's API. Add the parameter yourself: open the form in Typeform, choose Workflow, then Pull data in, and add a URL parameter named linkly_cid. Tracking works as soon as it exists.

Submissions aren't appearing. Check that tracking is on for the form on Linkly's Typeform page, and that conversion tracking is on for the link. Then click the short link yourself and confirm the form's address contains linkly_cid= followed by a code with a dot in it.

"That form is already tracked by another Linkly workspace." A form can send its submissions to one workspace at a time. Switch tracking off there first.
