How to Get Amazon Links to Open the App Directly
Shoppers convert better in the Amazon app: they're signed in, one-tap checkout works, and nobody has to squint at a mobile web page. If you're an affiliate or sell on Amazon, sending people to the app instead of the browser is one of the easiest conversion wins available. This guide shows the link format that opens the Amazon app directly, how it works across regional stores, and how to keep your affiliate attribution intact.
The direct method: Amazon's app scheme
Find the product's ASIN in the URL.
Every Amazon product URL contains a 10-character product ID (the ASIN) after /dp/:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08N5WRWNW
Longer URLs work too — the ASIN is the part you need.
Rewrite it with the Amazon app scheme.
Replace https://www. with com.amazon.mobile.shopping.web://:
com.amazon.mobile.shopping.web://amazon.com/dp/B08N5WRWNW
Regional stores keep their own domain — a UK product becomes com.amazon.mobile.shopping.web://amazon.co.uk/dp/B08N5WRWNW, and the same pattern works for .de, .co.jp, and the rest.
Use the new link.
On a phone with the Amazon app installed, this opens the product page straight in the app, in the right regional store.
The catch: no fallback, and in-app browsers
If the Amazon app isn't installed, the scheme link does nothing — there's no web page behind it. You need device detection to fall back to the normal product URL or the app store.
The in-app browsers on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook make it worse. They ignore the automatic app-opening that Safari and Chrome perform, so a normal Amazon link tapped from a link in bio opens the mobile website inside the social app — where the shopper isn't signed in.
Linkly's Open in app feature handles the whole flow: paste a normal Amazon URL and it opens the app when installed (preserving the regional store), falls back to the App Store, Google Play, or the website when it isn't, and works from social in-app browsers. Your click tracking and retargeting pixels fire before the handoff. Preview the generated links for any product URL with the free deep link tester.
Notes for affiliates
Attribution parameters like tag= live on the web URL, and Amazon's attribution carries through the app handoff when the link preserves them. Keep your full affiliate URL as the destination — don't strip parameters when constructing app links. A Linkly link keeps the destination URL exactly as you entered it, so your affiliate tag survives, and link cloaking can tidy the visible URL without touching attribution.
Platform-specific information for developers
iOS: Universal Links, until they aren't
In Safari and other "clean" contexts, standard https://www.amazon.com links already open the Amazon app via Universal Links. Inside social in-app browsers they don't — which is why the explicit scheme above exists.
Android: Intent URLs
The robust Android form is an Intent URL pinned to the Amazon shopping package with an explicit fallback:
intent://amazon.com/dp/B08N5WRWNW#Intent;scheme=com.amazon.mobile.shopping.web;package=com.amazon.mShop.android.shopping;S.browser_fallback_url=https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08N5WRWNW;end
Amazon app link FAQs
Does this work for regional Amazon stores?
Yes. The scheme keeps the store domain, so amazon.co.uk, amazon.de, amazon.co.jp and the rest all open in the app on their own store — shoppers land in the marketplace they actually buy from.
Will my affiliate tag still count?
Keep the tag on the destination URL and it carries through. Don't hand-strip URL parameters when building app links — or use a Linkly link, which preserves the destination exactly as entered.
