QR Code Tracking: Can You See Who Scans It?
A QR code can't count its own scans. It's just a picture of a link, so the tracking has to live in the link. Here's how to make a trackable QR code, print a different one for each place, and read the scans by country and device.

- 0:00Why a QR code can't count its scans
- A QR code can't count its own scans. It's just a picture of a link. So if you want to know whether your poster worked, the tracking has to live in the link. Here's how, in about a minute.
- 0:10Make it from a short link
- A normal QR code has no tracking built into it. There's nothing to read back, however many people scan it. So make the code from a short link. Linkly gives every link a QR code, and every scan is counted like a click.
- 0:22One code for each place
- Then make one for each place you'll print it. Same page behind all three. Now every placement has its own count.
- 0:29Read the scans
- Open the report and you can see which country the scans came from, and what phones scanned them. Here, iPhones scanned it most.
- 0:37Use Google Analytics too
- Already use Google Analytics? Add UTM tags to the link, and the scans show up there as well. That's the whole trick. Put the tracking in the link, and print a different code for each place. It's free to start with Linkly, and everything you need is just below this video.
