How to Get Twitch Links to Open the App Directly
A follow is one tap in the Twitch app — the viewer is already signed in. The same link opened in a mobile browser lands on a login wall. If you're promoting your stream on TikTok, Instagram, or X, whether the app opens is the difference between gaining a follower and losing one. Twitch is one of the few platforms that officially documents its deep link formats, which makes this one refreshingly reliable.
The direct method: the twitch:// scheme
Take your channel URL.
For example:
https://www.twitch.tv/yourchannel
Rewrite it with the twitch:// scheme.
To send viewers straight to the live stream:
twitch://stream/yourchannel
Or to the channel page (with VODs and the activity feed):
twitch://channel/yourchannel
Both formats come from Twitch's official mobile deep link documentation.
Use the new link.
On a phone with Twitch installed, the link opens the app directly — stream lands on the live player, channel on your profile.
The catch: no fallback, and in-app browsers
If the Twitch app isn't installed, a twitch:// link does nothing. There's no web page behind the scheme, so viewers without the app hit a dead end unless you add device detection and a fallback.
And the social in-app browsers — where your promo clips get tapped — ignore the automatic app-opening that Safari and Chrome do. A plain twitch.tv link tapped from a TikTok bio opens the mobile site inside TikTok's browser, logged out.
Linkly's Open in app feature handles it end to end: paste your normal channel URL, and each viewer gets the right behaviour for their device — the app when it's installed, the App Store, Google Play, or the website when it isn't — including from TikTok and Instagram bios. Platform-specific information for developers
Twitch documents its full set of mobile deep links (streams, channels, VODs, games, categories) at dev.twitch.tv/docs/mobile-deeplinks — including alternate query forms like twitch://open?stream=yourchannel.
Android: Intent URLs
For a scheme link with a built-in fallback on Android, wrap it as an Intent URL pinned to the Twitch package:
intent://stream/yourchannel#Intent;scheme=twitch;package=tv.twitch.android.app;S.browser_fallback_url=https://www.twitch.tv/yourchannel;end
This opens the app when installed and falls back to the website (or the Play Store, if you prefer) when it isn't.
Twitch app link FAQs
Should I link to the stream or the channel?
Use stream when you're live — it drops viewers straight into the player. Use channel for bios and evergreen links, since it works whether or not you're currently streaming.
Can I deep link to a specific VOD or clip?
Twitch's documentation covers VOD links (twitch://video/<id>), but for share-anywhere reliability a channel link is the safer bet — clips in particular are best shared as normal web links.
