How to Create a QR Code for a Website (Free, No App)

- A QR code in a window turns somebody walking past into somebody on your site. That's the whole idea, and it takes a minute. This is the sticker in the window. The shop is shut, the sign says back Tuesday, and the QR code is still working. Somebody walks past at nine on a Sunday, scans it, and lands on the site instead of a locked door. Paste your address in.

- Short link and QR code, both done, and you didn't have to go and find a QR generator first. Give the link a short ending you can say out loud, and a name you'll recognise in six months, then save. That's the QR code that goes on the sticker. Now make it yours.

- Set the colour, pick the shape, drop your logo in the middle. Keep the contrast strong though, because a pale QR code on a pale wall is a QR code nobody scans. Logos eat error correction, so test it at the size you're actually printing. Then test the QR code with an actual phone before anything goes to print. Always. I've watched a thousand flyers go out with a QR code that didn't scan. Here's the difference.

- A QR code from a free generator tells you nothing at all. This one tells you how many people scanned it, on what kind of phone, and roughly where they were standing when they did.
