0:00Scan, tap, saved to Contacts
Scan this. Tap Save contact. The phone offers to add Maya, and she's in Contacts. Name, number, email, job title, all of it. No typing, and no paper card that ends up in a drawer. That's a vCard QR code. Here's how to make one in Linkly, and why this one keeps working after it's printed.
0:19What a vCard QR code is
Okay, so a vCard is just the file format phones use for contacts. Every iPhone and Android understands it. Most free vCard QR code generators do something simple. They take your details and squeeze the whole file into the QR code itself. And that causes three problems.
0:35Static vs dynamic vCard QR codes
Here's a static one. The code holds the text. All of it. Which is why it's this dense, and why scanners struggle with it. Printed on five hundred business cards? Then it's frozen. New number, new job title? Reprint the lot. And you'll never know if anyone scanned it. Linkly does it differently. The QR code points at a short link. The link opens a small contact page with a Save contact button. Edit the details any time, the code never changes. And every scan is counted.
1:03Build one in Linkly
Let me make one. New link. And instead of a web address, I pick Contact card. The URL box turns into plain fields. First name, last name, company, job title. Mobile. Email. Website. That phone on the right is a live preview of what a scan will show, and it fills in as I type. Linkly's already saved it, and the nickname came from her name. I'll give it a friendly slug on our own domain. Save. And there's the short link with its QR code, ready for the printer.
1:32Edit it after printing
Now the bit the static codes can't do. Maya gets promoted. I open the link, change the title to Head Florist, and save. Same link. Same QR code. Back on the phone, pull to refresh, and it's already showing the new title. Nothing to reprint.
1:48See who scanned it
And because every scan goes through the link, you get a report. How many people scanned, when, and what kind of phone they used. Handy after a conference.
1:58Photos, your own domain, the whole team
A couple of things worth knowing. Add a photo and it's saved into the contact too. Put your own domain on the link and the page lives on your brand. And you can make one card per person on the team, each with its own code. Linkly is free to start, and everything you need is just below this video.
