Link in Bio Meaning + How to Add a Link to Your Instagram Bio (and Track It)
What does "link in bio" mean? Instagram doesn't make links in captions clickable, so creators point followers at the one place a link does work: the profile. Here's what link in bio means, how to add a link to your Instagram bio, and how to set it up once so you're not editing your profile every week.

- 0:00What link in bio means
- Link in bio. It's under half the posts you scroll past. It exists because Instagram won't make a link in a caption clickable. So everybody points at the one place a link does work. Your profile. Here's how to set yours up, and how to stop redoing it every week.
- 0:14Why a caption can't hold a link
- Here's a post. That web address in the caption is just text. Tap it, and nothing happens. The profile's different. There's a links field, and whatever's in it is live. So link in bio really means, go to my profile and tap the link there.
- 0:28Add a link to your Instagram bio
- Adding one takes four taps. Edit profile. Links. Add external link. Paste it in, and you're done. Instagram lets you add a few now, but only the first one shows without an extra tap. So make the first one count.
- 0:41Put a short link in your bio
- Here's what I'd put there. Not the raw page address. A short link. The shop page goes in, I call it latest, and save. That's what goes in the bio.
- 0:51Change it without touching Instagram
- Because next week you'll want it pointing somewhere else. A new video, say, or a sale. You don't touch Instagram at all. You change where the link goes, and your bio's already up to date.
- 1:02See where the taps came from
- And you get proper numbers. Instagram tells you how many people tapped. This tells you where they were and what phone they were on. And which day your post actually landed. A link in bio page, the kind with ten buttons, is a different tool. It's great if you've got ten places to send people. If you've got one, it's an extra tap in the way. It's free to start, and everything you need is just below this video.
